parents of children exposed to alcohol and drugs?
Q. What are some issues with your child's privacy and acquiring special education for you kids. Do they discuss you child's specific issues to the specific therapists? or do they lay it all about for everyone involved. How do you deal with you child's peers who's parents are on the staff. Are there issues with gossip.

A. Don't even get me going on this subject... but, since you asked--From the three different public school systems in two different states our FASD specifically ARND child has been involved the school system has not been involved with anything I have not had to nearly shove down their faces... At no time has anyone ever attempted to directly contact in any way any of the doctors or therapists for anything at all. The burden of doing this has been the Parents Position on the IEP Team! It required the involvement (retainer) and a phone call from an Attorney to even manage to get the specifics of the IEP deemed as a "Medical-Health" (as it is Axis III) rather then Social Behavioral (over my dead body)...Currently this child is bussed to… [cont.]

Do you have trouble talking to your disabled children about sex?
Q. I know a lot of parents regardless of their child's ability have this issue. But with your disabled children do you find it harder, did you start teaching them later than reccommended as in their age and why?
Asked by Skins_fan - Thu Mar 19 00:31:09 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For most (almost all) physically disabled children it is entirely irrelevant that they are disabled as they are fully capable of having a sexual relationship. Thus they should be taught the same as "normal" children. In the case of intellectually disabled children an individual evaluation of their ability to; (1) maintain a sexual relationship, (2) willingly engage in sexual activity and (3) their vulnerability to sexual exploitation; will inform the parent/caregiver as to what steps to take in terms of education.

What children's anitbiotic is a pink liquid for 10 days?
Q. My step kids evil mother put a 5yo on antibiotics for a cut finger. Hasnt she heard of neosporin or peroxide! And what sort of doctor issues such a prescription?? Anyway, she is allergic to penicillin, but the mother wont tell me what she is taking. It is her week to keep the kids. And, why she doesnt know what the child is allergic to is beyond me!! Just wondering if anyone had any ideas what the little one might be taking.

A. It is a form of penicillin! It can be called several things but it is always a form of PCN. And no I've worked in a emergency department for 10 yrs and no doctor I know would prescribe that for a cut finger! Typically if they are afraid of infection they would treat with IV antibiotics.
