How would I go about starting a youth slow pitch softball league?
Q. I am interested in starting a youth slow pitch softball league. All of the softball leagues in my area are now fast pitch. I want to offer another option to children, but I am unsure of how to go about it. There is a lot of interest in my area for slow pitch but I need to know if there are permits I needs to secure, sanction fees I need to pay, bank accounts I needs to open, etc. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

How do you increase your speed in regards to fast pitch softball?
Q. My daughter is 13, and plays rec and competitive fast-pitch softball. She plays awesome defense, and is a decent hitter, but she could use some work on her running speed. What kinds of drills could help out with this? Or should I enlist the help of a personal trainer?
Asked by CW1967 - Sat May 5 16:35:46 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. well running in general will help, but the most helpful thing is timing! getting off the bag at the earliest LEGAL time will definately make up for a slow runner! so will your confidence i play softball and i gotta say im not that fast, im decent but not particularly fast. I definately would say that im a great base runner becuase im smart about it. i get off the bag quick and i get almost half way to the other bag. i promise that if your daughter does that she'll be able to steal and make it often

A. Hello! I am so excited to answer a softball pitching question! I have been pitching for about 4 years now and I pitch about 55 mph. I have worked very hard and pitch every sunday... so one thing you need to do is make sure you take time to pitch about 2 hours every weekend at least and about 30 min each weekday. I have a pitching coach that I go to and if you can afford or find one I would advise you to take pitching lessons. If you want to throw faster, you need to lift wweights Doing ppush upshelp a lot to. Also, if you take a softball and nail 10-20 small nails into the softball to make it heavier and throw that for at least 10 min. during each workout, that will ddefinitelyincrease arm speed. Make sure you keep up your arm speed… [cont.]

How can I change a FAST pitch softball swing to a SLOW pitch swing?
Q. I played fast pitch softball through high school, but now am now playing co-ed slow pitch. Having a hell of a time not swinging too soon, and I'm making contact too close to the grip. Any pointers? Starting stance? Starting bat position? Where should my weight be over my feet? Should I use as big of a bat as I can manage, or small?
Asked by Blossomo - Wed Aug 8 23:27:26 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. with slow pitch you want to wait and explode. always swing at the very last possible moment. Good pitches will be good hits. Don't take a bad pitch in slow pitch. They pretty much have to give you a cookie. Always be able to lift your front foot off the ground. That is about 70% on the badck and 30 % on the front. stay to the back of the box. \ I teach to hold the bat straight up and down so the knob is pointing to the dirt and the endplug is pointing strait to the sky. This allows you to use an endloaded bat without feeling that weight. You want to use an endloaded bat and as heavy as you can feel good with and as you get stronger move up a half an oz in weight. The reason the ball goes far and hard is because the bat does not slow… [cont.]

What is the difference in the balls used for slow pitch and fast pitch softball?
Q. I know the difference in the games, but there are 12" slow pitch softballs and 12" fast pitch softballs. Also, both can be bought with yellow coverings too. What is different about them?
Asked by jcj798 - Thu Feb 12 12:48:30 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well really none the only difference really is that one is somewhat bigger and one is somewhat smaller like slow pitch is bigger and lighter because you don't have to use your arm strength as much as fast pitch. In fast pitch that balls are somewhat smaller and lighter because you have to use more arm power for it to go faster. Hope this is what you meant

What is the best single-wall non-composite slow-pitch softball bat on the market?
Q. We are in a co-ed league and are looking to pick up a new slow-pitch softball bat. The biggest limitations are that the league has banned multi-wall and composite bats. What are the major rule differences between baseball and slow-pitch softball?
Q. I have played baseball in leagues and watch MLB but I will be playing in my first softball league this summer. I was wondering if someone could explain the major rule differences besides, obviously, the bigger ball and underhand pitching.

A. Your coach or team manager should have a copy of the rules for the players to look over. I started to give you the site for ASA and ISA, but discovered that the wiki entry will probably answer your questions, especially down toward the bottom where it talks about game play. Have fun this summer!

What is the equation to convert softball pitch speed to baseball equivalent?
Q. What is the specific equation to allow me to convert a softball pitch speed to is baseball equivalent? I.E. if she pitches 'x' mph at 40 ft, what would it be at 60'6"? thank you
Asked by mkb_310 - Sat Jun 2 14:54:26 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A direct proportion.. x(40) = y(60' 6''). But i think what you want is the baseball speed that is as fast as the softball speed, I think that is a relative calculation so I'm not sure how they do that. What i gave you is the speed of the ball if it has to travel 20 ft more which isnt the same.

A. If there is a rule from the MHSAA about it I would make sure you could before you could lose your eligibility and cause some problems with your school. Hint -- you cannot play slo-pitch in Ohio when you are involved with your interscholastic team. Just make sure before you play.

Why do players put Athletic Tape for the Grip on a slow pitch softball bat?
Q. I always noticed players using athletic tape for their grip on a softball bat. What is the benifits of this? I hear however if u put the athletic tape on instead of the rubber grip ur bat tends to viberate a little more. Is this true?
Asked by babyshaqk003 - Sun Feb 15 19:50:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I use it on all my bats, baseball and softball. In my opinion, athletic tape is the best grip tape. First, it is very coarse, but not so rough that it'll chew up your gloves or hands. Second, It adds a lot of traction without much depth, so it doesn't "fatten" up your bat handle. Third, it's cheap and when you can't get a good bat for less than $150 anymore... it's nice to save elsewhere.. I never liked those rubber grips; they just seem to have too much "give" in them and I felt like it was slowing the bat down in my hands.

Q. I always noticed players using athletic tape for their grip on a softball bat. What is the benifits of this? I hear however if u put the athletic tape on instead of the rubber grip ur bat tends to viberate a little more. Is this true?

A. I use it on all my bats, baseball and softball. In my opinion, athletic tape is the best grip tape. First, it is very coarse, but not so rough that it'll chew up your gloves or hands. Second, It adds a lot of traction without much depth, so it doesn't "fatten" up your bat handle.
